Happy first day of summer! Or more officially for our aspiring astrophysicists, happy summer solstice. Thanks to the random downpours we have been experiencing, I got to imagine the sun at its highest point here in Boulder while dark clouds covered our view of the sky. Luckily, the night before was much clearer, so my team was able to complete the first observation of our asteroid; however, that left me very tired, so I started my day by waking up about thirty minutes before lecture. That left no time for breakfast at C4C (which I have totally woken up early to go to other days), so I grabbed a protein bar and water bottle (very important for the supposed dry climate here) and fought for our one functional sink.
Once ready, I walked to the observatory for our coding lecture with Dr. D and completed the practice assignments (shout out to Uluch for being an amazing mentor). At lunch, the cafeteria had been taken over, so I grabbed a salad (that line always seems to be empty), Then, the rain really started to come down. I ran back to my dorm, grabbed a jacket, and was back in my seat at 1:14 for calculus.
At dinner, my table continued our discussion of Diego’s Fundamental Theorem, you will never find a bad pink drink. We all thought we could disprove this because of strawberry milk, but he wanted to expand the pole; if you see him, be sure to let him know what you think (especially if you don’t like it).
The rain and the fact that it was the longest day of the year created the perfect conditions to complete my PSets, so Muktha and I spent the next six hours staring at our paper, attempting to draw bowl diagrams, and annoying the T.A.s with all our questions. Finally, I finished up my last question as we were kicked out of the computer lab. I made it to my dorm exactly at our curfew, so don’t expect to see me at breakfast tomorrow either.
Being the studious SSPers we are, I was obviously not on my phone while working, so here is a picture of the red light for our observation. Technically, this is still my day since we didn’t leave until 00:00.
Hey everyone! My name is Emiline, and I am from Savannah, Georgia. In my free time, I enjoy volunteering, listening to music, and flying. I plan to study aerospace engineering in college and look forward to meeting more people here who are interested in the same!
