Hey guys! I’m Julia, and I’m a rising senior from Augusta, Georgia. Yesterday was my birthday,
and I had a really memorable time celebrating, so I’ll just talk about that today. We got to sleep
in a little, so after getting enough rest, some friends and I left to get breakfast and drinks at
Starbucks. I got a matcha latte and a breakfast wrap, but forgot to take a picture. Oops. I also
unfortunately paid for my drink without knowing I could’ve gotten one for free on my birthday, but
it’s fine. I’ll just tell them it’s my birthday next time, I guess.
Anyhow, on our way back from the dorms sometime after that, we were met with a really
beautiful view! We just had to snap a Polaroid and some pictures.
After that, we got to meet a guest speaker! Dr. Ljubica Caldovic gave us a tour of the Children’s
National Rare Disease Institute and her lab. The facilities were so, so nice and it was amazing
getting to know more about Dr. Caldovic’s research in rare pediatric kidney disorders.
Later, at around 2 PM, we baked cookies as a group in the common room! They tasted so
amazing.
Right after, we went bowling at Pinstripes. I had lots of fun, even though my score was far from
perfect. (Our game also ended early, so yeah…)
After that, I had to pick up some cupcakes (from a local bakery) that my parents had ordered for
me as a surprise present for my birthday. It was really hot outside and the delivery guy came 10
minutes late, so shoutout to Anthony and Baback for staying with me during that painful wait
and carrying the stuff when the guy finally arrived.
Finally, after a good dinner and study session, during which we worked on PSETs, we got to
re-assemble in the common room and have a mini celebration with the aforementioned
cupcakes! After decorating her room a bit and taking pictures, we all shared the cupcakes
together, and they were so delicious! Here’s some photos from the event:
And that concludes my birthday blog! A huge thanks to everyone for being so sweet, writing me
the nicest surprise birthday card, and making this such a fun birthday! I couldn’t have asked for
a better campus!
