Astro GCSU: Day 19

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!!!” (insert eagle noises here…)

… is of course the first thing that I belted out to my roommate on this wonderfully glorious, patriotic, and American morning. I certainly did NOT forget about the MOST important holiday of the year – the Fourth of July – or the best blog post of 2024 (mine, of course) until TA Evan reminded me at dinner.

Today marks my nineteenth day at SSP: exactly halfway through the astrophysics program at Georgia College and State University. I awoke to the sweet melody of birds chirping (the fire alarm beeping outside my door), a cooling breeze wafting over my face (the AC that I forgot to turn up last night and left at 60℉), and a beautiful serenade resounding in my ear (the default iPhone alarm I had to snooze every five minutes)

Alas, as lovely as my daily routine sounds, much to my dismay, I failed to complete my typical morning run and instead opted for a well-deserved sleep-in after returning from the Braves game half past midnight.

Here’s a photo of Divya, Jasmine, and I at the Braves game yesterday. We mingled with Atlantean natives, hordes of spirited Braves fans, and lone Giants supporters lost in the foreign wilderness. I’m more of a Red Sox fan myself, but seeing the Braves win (and Dr. Ice rejoicing) was quite an experience.

After a quick breakfast of a peanut butter and cream cheese bagel (eaten separately, obviously), I headed over to the lecture hall to learn about astronomical optics from Dr. C and the method of Gauss from Dr. D.

Exhausted from the karaoke-filled bus ride and excitement last night, my classmates and I took full advantage of the break to catch up on sleep. Unfortunately, some of our peers decided to snap a photo of us passed out on our desks and sent it on the Discord channel. You can enjoy our well-rested (and certainly not sleep-deprived) faces in the candid below.

Seeing as nap time seems to be such an attractive idea, I should probably end this blog post here and head off to bed.

Good night, and happy Fourth of July!
