Daniel’s July 5th Blog

I woke up to my college board account ready on my phone. AP scores are finally out, I started off my day with a mixture of feelings since I had to continue to our morning lectures after waiting months for my AP scores. AP exams was everyone’s conversation that morning which brought a mixture of reactions from people. On this day we had our first lecture on Nuclear Physics which was completely new to me and a lot of others. It involved some chemistry which made me struggle since I have no prior chemistry knowledge. Overall I found the lecture interesting due to how new the topic was to me. After our morning lecture me and James were going to get a haircut. I usually get a haircut every 4-5 weeks due to my dad telling me I can’t grow my hair too long. He doesn’t like long hair and I agree with him anyways so I get frequent haircuts. Unfortunately me and James pulled up to the barber shop and waited an hour just to not be able to get a haircut due to the line being pretty long. We ate at cosmic cantina, a Mexican restaurant, for lunch and continued to our afternoon lecture. After our afternoon lecture I played some spikeball with others. The rest of the evening went like a normal evening with us working on psets. That evening we were working on the Nuclear physics pset after learning the topic. I really enjoyed this pset since we were very engaged in completing it. I was trying to catch up to others since it involved some chemistry which was completely new to me. After completing that pset I was too tired to continue working on psets and I went back to my dorm to get a bit of extra sleep. I concluded my day by sleeping at around 1:30 which is pretty average here at SSP.

About me:

My name is Daniel Tecum-Puac and I’m from Los Angeles California. I enjoy playing soccer, piano, and playing video games with others. I have always found math fascinating and after learning physics I became passionate to pursue a career in STEM. I am still unsure which specific career I may take but SSP has taught me that I will definitely consider Astrophysics due to how interesting it is. SSP has been an amazing experience so far because of the amazing community and the rigor. I look forward to the next two weeks of SSP.
