First day. Best day. Birthday 🤩🔥
Today was the first full day of SSP!! We had a jam packed day that started off bright and early at 6:50 in front of the Honors College Dorms. From there, we went off to Ford Dining Hall, had a scrumptious little breakfast, and headed off to lectures in the armory at 8 am.
We had introductory lectures from 8 all the way to 11:45 (even though we were supposed end at 11:30). Today’s lectures included Dr. Das, Dr. Fantin, and Dr. Reeves. Post-lectures, we headed off to lunch in the Union (I had some scrumptious ramen, although they came super late).
After lunch, we went off to our very first lab! The lab is super cool and fancy and has so much science equipment that I was scared to touch anything. After receiving instructions from Dr. Das, we went straight to lab work: practicing our pipetting techniques, doing bacterial transformations, and preparing mediums. Hopefully, my groups bacteria grow and we can keep working with our colonies tmr 🙏🙏
After labs, we went back to our dorms to get changed for dinner back at Ford. Dinner today was also very scrumptious and we got to sit with all of the TAs and directors. Post-dinner, there was our first dorm meeting where we all had to go around and say fun facts. And after that, was a nice little surprise for yours truly, me! The staff at SSP was so nice and prepared cupcakes for my birthday!!! Everybody sang (it actually sounded very good) and we all got to eat cupcakes for dessert!
And that concludes our first successful day at SSP 🥳🥳🥳
