DAY 12, GOING STRONG!!!!

Hi Y’all!

I think it is day 12 today but being stuck in the lab all the time has made me lose my sense of time. Maybe it is because of all the fun I have been having or all the nights I’ve spent troubleshooting but time is flying. Today we did our natural transformation lab which I believe went well considering that our group only had one tDNA sample that had more than 2 microliters and left it growing for about 4 hours. My research partners have also been working hard these past few days and I am super grateful that our team is always ready to get back on schedule when our experiment goes wrong. On another note, I woke up just in time for breakfast and made it JUST in time for the lab at 8 in the morning, which I found surprising because our walk from the dorm to the lab is about 12 minutes walk and we arrived at in 8 mines, yay.  During the lectures, we learned about the cell structure, different types of horizontal gene transfers, and the struggles and wonders of using Galaxy. We also had a lab where we entered Netlogo and explored different biology simulations which also included their entire code. I think my favorite was the autumn stimulation because of the code that changed the colors of the leaves and the way the leaves were programmed to present how they fall in a natural environment.  I also talked to new people today and I think the conversations went well! Thanks all from me today 🙂

About me:

Hi! My name is Ely and I am from Los Angeles, California. Outside of my academic life, I love to run with my team, draw in my free time, and read whenever I need a break. I also love spending time with my friends, and my birds ( Kiwi, Chip, Nebby, and Pepino).  Here at SSP, you can find me fixing my chemostat in the lab, drinking so much coffee, or hiding away in my dorm room.
