Hello! This is Lauren, today is my day for the blog. This is what I wrote:
Today is Saturday! I had a bunch of events planned for today, including homework, lecture review, and lots of activities! Early in the morning, I caught up on some assignments at the lab. We were working on interpreting our data. I used my standard curve and the data I collected from measuring the absorbance over time to make a graph of product formation over time. Using the standard curve with absorbance vs. µM substrate, we converted the absorbance readings we got over time to find the concentration (µM) at each absorbance point. This part of the process involved working with linear regression and other calculations to organize and interpret our data. Once that was done, I completed designing the enzyme assay with my group. We purified our protein and are currently testing if it’s what we hypothesized (cdc14) and measuring its concentration and effectiveness. After doing some work, I went to get lunch at the Ford with my friends. They had some kind of soup that I really liked. Today we also had an activity planned for the whole cohort: bowling! I was horrible at it, but it was really fun and we laughed a lot, especially when everyone saw Jazzy getting dragged across the floor because he had gotten a gutter in the game. Since it was Saturday, we got extended boundaries from 5-8 after bowling. I tried hot pot for the first time, which was really good and made me full very fast. We were in a rush to get there on time. It was a 17-minute walk to the place we were headed, but we wanted to make it in 10. We arrived in 8 minutes; we were basically running. After eating at the hotpot place, we went to Mango Mango, and I watched my lactose-intolerant friend eat a lot of ice cream with his lactose pills right next to him. We shared an ice cream among four people. We had a lot of fun. At around 7:40, we headed back, and I reviewed some lectures through slides I had saved on my phone. Overall it was a great day and I had lots of fun!
