“Question of the Day #10: Match the famous opening line to the book.” I have been on a streak for these QODs (created by Tomi, our amazing TA) since the program started, and opening Canvas to check them the minute I wake up has become a habit. However, there was no time today (a Saturday morning!) to sit down and ponder since we are getting individual feedback on the introduction we’ve written for our research paper! Seeing that it would rain for the next hour, I grabbed my umbrella and rain jacket before leaving for breakfast and the feedback session.
The pouring Indiana rain and deep muddy puddles were unexpected—I got to the session with swimming pool shoes. Dr. Keithly gave me a few suggestions for professional scientific writing and clarified lingering questions about CDC14 (conserved domain in our target protein). After the session, I headed back to the dorm and did a whole week’s worth of laundry while listening to Alex practice the oboe in the laundry room (he was amazing!). Instead of having lunch outside, my friends and I made Shin ramen in the dorm kitchen. Our lovely TA Lauren helped us get the key for the kitchen, and we had great fun in the kitchen! 🫡
After lunch, our cohort went bowling! It was great seeing everyone’s reactions to all the strikes and gutter balls. However, Alex twisted his knee… But, our buffed TA Anthony carried him up the stairs and Alex is happily playing cards right now (it’s cozy game night time)!
