Day 2 Blog–Torin

Started the day at 5:30 in the morning for a run with a couple other homies from the program. There were about five of us in total, a couple of us doing a fartlek cross country workout and some more just going for their daily jog.

Ran around the campus for about 40 then headed back to the dorms for breakfast. At 7:00, we all as a group walked over to the breakfast hall and grabbed some delicious peanut butter and jelly oats. Super good. After, we headed for lecture in the armory. Today’s topic was an activity on bioinformatics and matching recombination with other proteins. I sit in a group surrounded by probably the coolest people I’ll ever meet, so the work turns into just an awesome time.

After the activity about 10, we got prepped with some background material for our lab. I got lunch at 11:30 at a pretty good sandwich place in the study hall building and talked around with some more cool peeps. After lunch, we went to the lab got the check on our bacteria to see if it was growing. It was!! Me and my group were pretty excited for that. After that part, we got to mixing up different gel mixtures for gel electrophoresis. We need to see if the plasmid we inducted to the bacteria is what we want, so well separate it out with gel. Its complicated but the professors are so incredibly good at explaining it turns from this enigma of a concept to something pretty manageable. So far everything is making sense, but this is also day 2 so well see how it is in a couple weeks. After lab, we headed for dinner and got to talk with some other groups about their project and about how to make the perfect fruit tree (actually, it doesn’t seem that hard). After dinner, we headed back to the lab to finish up with some problem sets and other parts of the lab if you didn’t already get it done. We were good 🤙🤙. Lastly, to finish the day, we threw down some basketball 1v1s (I got demolished). I’m planning on heading to bed about 10:00 to restart and to do it all again. So far 10/10
