Day 9- “There’s more than just corn in Indiana” (Biochemistry Purdue II)

Today, day 9 of SSP, we had our first official field trip to Indiana Beach. Indiana Beach is an amusement park with a range of activities such as roller coasters, water slides, and arcade games. Looking a little bleak at first with the rain and thunder temporarily turning off the roller coasters, we sought shelter in bumper cars which was a safe place for me to practice my F1 debut.

We then scarfed down pizza and went on our first exhilarating ride: the teacups. Although surprisingly fun we rushed to the roller coaster that just opened. Called Cornwall, the main attraction of the ride was its almost vertical drop that transformed the rain into a shower. Of course we went on a second time to get a full experience, ensuring that our eyes were open and able to see the view from the top as well as our plummet down. We then waddled to an assortment of rides including: Hurricane (similar to Cornwall), Steel Hog, Music Express, Falling Star, Sea Dragon, and Water Swings.

Scavenging the Dippin’ Dots I personally indulged in the rainbow ice flavor with the entertainment of watching people do the Sky Coaster. It’s not a roller coaster but instead an attraction where you get harnessed and lifted up 110 feet into the sky. Then you pull a long rope to drop and swing back and forth over Lake Shafer. Initially I thought there was no way I was going on something so seemingly unsafe but I ended up being convinced and went with my roommate Yohanna! If I did a bad job of explaining, here’s a picture…

Sky Coaster ended up being my favorite thing at Indiana Beach but it was unfortunately time to head back to the Purdue Campus. We rushed to eat dinner at Ford (the dining hall) and hurried to do our introduction draft for our final paper. Finishing at 10, I got ready for bed and felt good about the exciting day we got to experience!
