Despicable Me(teorology)

by Drew H.

SSP is designed as a very regimented experience with every day scheduled from 9:00 A.M. until 1:00 A.M. Our days usually find us either in lecture, eating meals in assigned seating, or in the lab late at night selling our souls to the OD Code. For this reason, I find it truly surprising how many random and interesting events happen on a daily basis.

Take Sunday, our “day of rest,” for example. Shortly after waking up (past noon), I walked out of my room to commotion in the hallway as some people worked to convince others that we needed to put on suits despite the pouring rain. While a seemingly random debate for a Sunday afternoon, wearing suits was part of our plan to participate in the viral ‘GentleMinions’ trend where moviegoers dress in suits and go to their local theater to watch the newly released Minions movie.

After doing my part to convince everyone that suits needed to remain the dress code, I walked downstairs, looked out the window, and promptly went to the lounge to beg my friend for an umbrella. As around 20 of us trudged through the, thankfully now light, rain to the bus stop, I regretted the comment I had made three days prior wishing for more rain as I ‘like the vibe.’

After making it to the movies and posing for a picture, we filed into the theater past a slightly suspicious usher (not every GentleMinion who has joined in this trend has acted in a gentlemanly fashion) to enjoy the movie.

Despite our exciting diversion that afternoon, you will now find me back on schedule, in the lab past midnight coding and writing this blog post.

About Me:

Hey y’all! My name is Drew and I’m from South Carolina. In my free time you’ll likely find me playing the violin, or chess on my phone. Here at SSP, I spend most of my time outside work playing Super Smash Bros or Ultimate Frisbee. My proudest accomplishment so far is that I have yet to take up a coffee addiction.
