Hi guys. My name is Aarav. SSP has been a chaotic whirlwind of stuff so far, but I’ve been having a blast. Whether it’s difficult PLA’s, researching our antibiotic, or our chemostats needing autoclaving for the 9th time, there’s always something to do. In light of this, I’ve adopted a new motto while here – hours, not days.
Almost every day, something goes wrong, and it’s important to know that mistakes are bound to happen. It’s better to get out in front of them and fix what you can (or sometimes even restart), knowing that it could potentially save you in the future. On that same note, sometimes, it’s important to invest time in properly understanding what you’re doing in the moment, even if that means spending extra time doing a lab or staying up doing a pset, as this commitment will pay dividends when you least expect it.
Anyways, today was a fun day. First, me and my friend Carson woke up early to actually get some exercise in. Here’s a picture of us getting food after.
Then, we had a bioinformatics lab. Even though I’m happy to transition away from our chemostats, I’m lowkey gonna miss them. Shout out to my labmates, Angie and Baback, and our awesome TA Griffin.
Then, we got some lunch at chickfila. Shoutout Ivan for being big.
Afterwards, we had our first guest speaker, Dr. Jones. She gave a wonderful lecture on her experience as a bioinformatician, and I’m excited for future guest speakers.
Finally, we grinded out our abstract and called it a night (Shoutout Vikram). There was a cute bunny outside that was staring right at us.
Peace – Aarav
