“Howdy. I’ve been to 9 schools. But I still don’t understand why people always introduce themselves with a name. What does it really mean to be “your name”? Why don’t we introduce ourselves with something more interesting?”

“I don’t know where I’m going (skate)

But I know what I’m showing (four)” – I THINK by Tyler the Creator

Just into the second week of the Summer Science Program, I truly understand why people would say this is the experience of a lifetime. Learning astronomy, physics, calculus, and python from a beginner level while my peers have been excelling in those subjects was quite a “culture shock”. Everyone here was determined, and knew what they were doing. I felt the adrenaline and excitement to push myself to a new potential!

Starting the day with Calculus, Taylor’s series, and ending the day with another lecture of Observation in Astronomy, my mind was bamboozled. Newton never got a girlfriend, and yet he invented the very foundations of Calculus. Everything that was taught was a majority of new information. It was wild that my brain was able to absorb a considerate amount of information in the span of a 3 hour marathon.

Exhausted but satisfied with my progress, I returned to the dorms with my peers. Grabbing my family sized Cheeto Puffs, along with a full bag of warm, perfectly salted, buttery popcorn, I layed on the carpet of my dorm neighbor. We piled our food into the middle of the carpet and held our discussions about the intense academics and our future plans. I rarely meet people who I connect so much with. It was a pleasant surprise.

Thinking, working towards the future with people who are similar to me is a marvelous experience. I am so excited to meet everyone in this program in the coming weeks.

I don’t know where I am going, but I know I will always show my personality of JOY.
