After several days of troubleshooting our chemostats, Sunday was a relaxing day to prepare for our second week at SSP. Instead of waking up at 6:00 AM sharp to get ready for our 7 AM breakfast, I was able to happily set my alarm at 7:20 AM for me and my roommate to get more sleep. Once I dragged myself out of bed and splash some water on my face, I made my way to breakfast to eat a couple of tater tots and sausages.
After breakfast, I did laundry on my own for the first time. It was a somewhat terrifying experience. Since I didn’t have my mom looking over my shoulder to make sure I was doing it right, I called my mom to make sure I didn’t stain any of my clothing. She promptly answered and guided me through doing laundry. Although She informed me that I was doing it correctly, I’m glad that I did call her because it gave us some time to catch up. As my laundry was in the washer, I played pool for the first time in 10 years and played some ping-pong.
Instead of eating at the dining hall, we were able to order some sandwiches from McAlister’s Deli. I ordered the grilled chicken club and it was delicious (delicioso). Thank You Ms.Latus. Then, I headed to the lab to work on PS1-6, a self reflection, for the first week at SSP. As I left the lab, I replaced my media and waste for my chemostat with my teammates.
Dinner was especially special as it was the last of week 1. Through all the hardships of long nights in the lab, we came out of the shower other end to enjoy a fun game of volleyball between the genomics and biochem program.
While I did not play in the game as I am not a good volleyball player, I gave my cheers to Genomics. Both programs were cheering and having fun while supporting our SSP peers. Being able to blow off steam after an intense week at SSP was definitely the highlight of my first full Sunday at SSP. Overall, it was a nice bonding experience between both SSP programs at Purdue University to get to know one another more while exercising.
