Meet the NMSU Astro II TAs!!

Hi all! We’re going to be your TA mentors for NMSU’s Astro II program. We’ve been preparing all week for your arrival and love to welcome you to New Mexico State University for SSP Astro II. We just wanted to briefly introduce ourselves so you’d have a familiar face when everyone arrives, see y’all soon and safe travels!!

Laurissa (she/her)

Hi everyone! I’m Laurissa. I attended SSP in 2018 at CUB and returned as a TA in 2023. I just graduated from UCSD with a bachelor’s in aerospace engineering and will be starting my master’s in the Fall. I love rock climbing, motorcycling, arts and crafts, and baking. I also love penguins and wear too much tie dye. I’m looking forward to meeting all of you!

Marcus (he/him)

Hello! I’m Marcus and I will be one of your TAs this summer. I am currently a senior studying Aerospace Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder, and this will be my first experience with SSP. For some background, I was born in Colorado, however I did go to high school in northern California. I am currently a member of Colorado RoboSub, a club focused on submersible robotics, where I do mechanical and electrical work. I am also into sports, as I often attend my university’s football, basketball and volleyball games. I am excited to meet you all! – Marcus

Maddie (she/her)

Hi all! I’m Maddie and I have the privilege for be Astro II’s TA mentor for this summer. This is also my first experience with SSP and I am absolutely thrilled to be here. This upcoming year I will be a rising Junior at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, GA. I am new involved with a research group studying galaxy morphology and star formation using the Illustris simulation. I grew up in Washington state and then moved to Georgia for school. Also at GCSU, I am the President of the Women’s Ultimate Frisbee team and am working to form a mixed team as well. So far I’ve spent my summer playing ultimate, as well as disc golf, and then working at a horse barn where I care for the horses and teach our campers how to ride. I love a good movie and any kind of card game, although UNO is probably my favorite. I’m so excited to meet all y’all tomorrow and safe travels! See you soon, Maddie 🙂

Taylor (he/him)

I participated in SSP in 2021 at CUB. Outside of class, I love tricking, theme parks, and dance. I’m so excited to meet all of you!
