Whoever said Mondays suck clearly had never been to SSP.
This morning was the first working day where we could walk to breakfast/lectures by ourselves. So obviously we left as late as possible. The extra sleep was needed.
Once we got to the lab we had to calibrate our OD sensors for the second time (third time for our group lol). Everyone is new to the programming, so attempting to understand the machines is a mental workout. These calibrations are the basis of our entire project, so we are perfecting one of the most critical steps. However nothing compares to the feeling of a lab well done.
After labs we had a well deserved lunch break. Everyone at my table had a version of water and called it a day (sprite, diet soda, flavoured water, coffee etc). We have to keep up with the New Mexico heat.
Back in the lab we had to calibrate our OD sensors AGAIN. Then all our data got lost because of a programming glitch. Next, we had to re-sterilize our lab equipment because of contamination.
Today goes to show how meticulous science is. We need to consider every variable. Is it time consuming? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes.
Overall, we got our chemostats up and running. It was a lab well done.
