SSP Program Blog: Day 10

Hello ssp children, I had the misfortune of being drawn to do this so you all will have the misfortune of listening to my 5 on AP Yapping skills. The skies are currently clear at 9:30 AM although they are ominously gray, so we’ll see how that bodes for us later. Now, students are packing for the first field trip which leaves in a few minutes. Very exciting.

Update: We made it onto the bus!

2.5 hours of mobile gaming/TA sanctioned naptime.

Lunch on the bus was an infinite supply of tiny sandwiches.

Update: WE MADE IT.

Each ride and ratings:

HallowSwings: 9/10.

Comments: Not super exciting, but a good start because it’s relaxing and you get a good view. Also doubles as a blow-dryer because the wind is wimdy.

Water park: Σ/10

Comments: We managed to catch the waves before the rain.

Unfortunately I don’t have many pictures for obvious reasons (don’t want Angelina to chuck it into the pool).

Lazy River was so good that it made me forget the mental agony problem set 2 inflicted upon my brain.

We went on every single slide!! Cheetah Race was rigged (we lost), the giant toilet whirlpool one was jarring, and everything else was very cool. We picked the perfect time to go, because we went to the water during the sweltering heat and then did the dry rides as it started raining, call that maximization.

The Voyager: 0/10 (I didn’t go on it)

Comments: too scary. I’m a coward, sue me.

Angelina’s rating: 10/10 (her first big roller coaster!)

Statement from Angelina: “There was no point at which I stopped screaming. I tried to look ahead to see what was coming up but there was nothing. I said God bless America because there was an American flag so I could be reminded what country I would die in.”

Refer to Exhibit A (left).

Good Gravy: 7/10

Comments: Slightly anticlimactic based on the amount of screaming echoing in the boarding place. It wasn’t actually that bad except for the beginning where we got slingshotted into oblivion.

The Thunderbird: -36397483/10 (I didn’t go on it)

Comments: I’m a coward, SUE ME. The low ranking is due to the fact that it goes upside down and this looks more scary than the other ride. Y’all can make me go on it if you pay my SSP tuition.

Props to the kiddos who did it though.

The Crow’s Nest: 1749274839/10

Comments: While the children did the crazy scary upside-down loop ride, I did a replacement swings ride with small children half my height. I have no shame. It was not scary at all and never went upside down so it is immediately better. I bet it was more exhilarating than your ride.

Thunderbird (Attempt 2): ???/10

Comments: REGRETREGRETREGRETREGR ETREGRETREGRETREGRETRE GRETREGRETREGRETREGRET REGRETREGRETREGRETREGR ETREGRETREGRETREGRETRE GRETREGRETREGRETREGRET

(^that looks like a funky amino acid sequence lol)

Thunderbird (Attempt 2 Reflection): AHHHHHHHHHAHDJAJDHAJHFJSJRHE/10

Comments: IT WAS SO GOOD THAT I HAD TO DO IT TWICE. That’s what they call character development. The rain actually hurt because of the high velocity but it was so nice. The second time, we went on without shoes and it was awesome. It went UPSIDE DOWN.

Angelina: “You should go on it, it was actually less scary than the gravy ride I didn’t even scream.”

SHE LIED IT WAS WORSE THAN THE GRAVY RIDE.

(I hope you are proud of me).

Star Spangled Carousel: 8/10

Spangled is such an interesting verb. The Canadian achieved yet another American experience. “You all really love your country.” – Angelina.

It was a vibe. Very relaxing.

The Revolution: 1.5 mL microcentrifuge tube/10

We experienced what it felt like to be a 1.5 mL microcentrifuge tube. The person there literally had to move us to balance the centrifuge so we wouldn’t die. -1 aura because the g-forces almost broke us.

Other highlights:

The Canadian became American: Angelina goes to prison for violating SSP honor code:
Talia’s hair somehow stays perfect in the rain: Chicken.

General Update: It’s raining!! Drizzling so it’s nice.

It’s so nice, there are no lines. We got to immediately go on the Thunderbird twice even though there’s usually like a 2638273 hour wait.

Food Section:

We ate a pretzel together: (it was $10) $5 cotton candy

Dinner!!!

We have a whole banquet hall reserved. :Sparkle:

We are eating pizza and breadsticks.

Bonus pic:

Gift shop made us broke. We bought bracelets, this expanding axolotl thingy, pins, and Kaitlynn got this crocodile stuffie named Crinkle.

Now we’re on the bus on the way back to campus. We managed to catch the sunset. 2 hour nap time pt. 2. Love the empty parking lot liminal space feeling.

The view is so nice:

Update: We made it back to IU campus at exactly 10:03 PM. Goodnight!

(Shout-out to Team 4, field trip crew!)

I literally got the best day possible to do this blog, it’s been fun and very eventful :)). Not sure how we’re gonna go from this to the academic grind tomorrow though.

I put more effort into this than Problem Set 2.

Please don’t kick me out of SSP.
