UNC Astro Blog Post Day 19

I get blasted awake at 8:45 am by my self-inflicted siren on my phone, a cool 15 minutes before first lecture. Truly, this is the “educational experience of a lifetime”, complete with a scarring dose of sleep deprivation. All that aside, the lectures are honestly such a fulfilling experience and today was no different. Quantum mechanics… such a sci-fi sounding word, it’s crazy that this is something real people can actually study, and something that mere high schoolers can learn about.

SSP is all about fulfilling experiences, from visiting college towns, to the first time your code runs correctly, to AMAZING food ;). But, even better than constantly subjecting yourself to hours of problem sets and coding errors, we actually can have fun here, unlike popular belief.

During breaks I love to explore with my friends (always in bounds, of course), and we have found multiple potential food spots for when the dining hall food inevitably gets drab and dreary, both in taste and looks. Our adolescent energy is dissipated through hours of spikeball and football, along with a healthy amount of walking, although this may not exactly be by choice.

Speaking of fun, today we partook in America’s favorite pastime, bowling! It being our one chance in the week to really get out we took full advantage. We have some real bowlers here, something I was not expecting to be honest. To cap off the day, it was even someone’s birthday! Cake can make any day better, and it elevated an already great day to amazing.

Time is in such a warp here. Week one took a year, week two took a day, week three I don’t even know anymore. But, it is such a rewarding experience. The people, the joy of finding your asteroid, even the problem sets in some twisted way, it is all so amazing.

Anyways, I have to go now, I have telescope time at the bright hour of 11:30 pm. (I mean, better than the 1:30 am I’ve been subjected to multiple times recently…)
