UNC Astro Blog Post Day 4

We are getting into the groove of things here at SSP! Today, we learned about derivatives and integrals in our morning lecture, which will help us a lot in our research project. In the afternoon lecture, we learned about optics and telescopes, pairing nicely with our work up in the Morehead Observatory. We have been observing our asteroids, and all our groups have made contact with their targets!

We are building our base of knowledge to begin our research project on near-Earth asteroids, and collecting data on our targets. This Saturday, we will go to Franklin Street, the local hub of restaurants and interesting stores, to explore Chapel Hill and stretch our legs off campus. The next day, we will enjoy some much needed free-time with activities like hiking and soccer.

Coming up next week, we will be learning Newton and Kepler’s laws of motion, as well as Astrometry and Taylor Series. We will take a fun trip to the North Carolina beach on Thursday!
