Vicky = Cream Cheese Brownie

by Vicky V.

If you were to tell me one year ago I was going to be at an astrophysics summer program determining the orbital path of an asteroid, I would’ve laughed and said “IS THIS SATIRE?*” STEM was really not a field I was considering for my future until just recently, which is reflected in the lack of knowledge in programming I had at the start of this program. I had never taken a single programming class before coming to SSP, but thankfully, I really enjoy learning new topics so I was sort of able to get a grasp on it eventually.

One of the biggest highlights here at SSP UNC is the cream cheese brownies that they serve at Chase Dining Hall. Aside from all the supportive people here at SSP, the cream cheese brownies are the only things that keep me going through all the stressful coding and problem sets that are assigned to us. As mentioned in other blog posts, the trek to Chase Dining Hall from our dorm is a 15 minute walk, but the cream cheese brownies that they occasionally serve make it worth it. In fact, I would walk barefoot during a hurricane for an hour just to get those cream cheese brownies.

I have attempted to convince many other fellow SSPers to try the cream cheese brownies, and not a single person here understands why I enjoy them so much (just like how no one seems to understand my strange way of programming for the OD code). Much like other foods at Chase Dining Hall, the cream cheese brownies have a questionable texture which can be unpredictable. Sometimes, random sections are rigid for no reason (just like my mindset when it comes to copying and pasting lines instead of doing a while loop for the f and g series part of my main OD code). The flavor of these brownies can be described as bittersweet, which describes the memories of SSP I will have after this program ends. Cream cheese brownies are just like me fr.*

Unfortunately, they have not been serving cream cheese brownies in over a week, which explains the miserable state I’ve been in for the past few days. It’s not as bad as the time when I was crying about not being able to get food from the Cheesecake Factory** in the computer lab, however. I’m not sure why I have such a strong fixation on cream cheese brownies to the point that I write an entire blog post on them- I guess they’re just quirky and not like other brownies.* For the remainder of SSP, I’m really hoping that my OD code will work out well (and for the cream cheese brownies to return!)

About Me:

Hi, I’m Vicky and I’m from Cary, NC (which is about a 20-30 minute drive from UNC). For most of my life, I’ve wanted to major in business but just recently, I discovered that STEM truly did interest me more, and SSP helped me enjoy it even more. In my free time, you can usually find me eating, dancing, or making tiktoks.
