Hi everyone! Over the past few days at UNC Chapel Hill, we’ve been hard at work preparing for participants to arrive. In anticipation of arrival day tomorrow, we (the TAs) would like to introduce ourselves. We’re excited to meet you all! 🙂
Lucy (she/her/hers)
Hi, I’m Lucy! I graduated from the College of Charleston in 2020 with a BS in Astrophysics and Physics. Since then I have worked at the Planetary Science Institute, as well as NASA, and in the fall I am starting a job as a millimeter wave engineer. I spend my free time reading, cooking, and taking care of my two bunnies (Juno and Quasar).
Feli (she/her/hers)
Hi, I’m Feli, and I’m a junior at MIT studying physics + many other cool things. I like cool science, cool history, cool art, and cool math. In my free time I work as an EMT, and I enjoy reading novels and hanging out with my cat Mimi (pictured below). Excited to meet you all!
Ian (he/him/his)
Hi, this is Ian. I graduated from Harvard a few weeks ago with a degree in physics— but outside of class I spent a lot of time doing standup comedy and performing with a drumming group. If anyone asks what I’m doing in my future, I’ll say, “Huh?”
Julio (he/him/his)
Hello, I’m Julio! I’m a first-generation, Puerto Rican, Ph.D. student, a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community, and an aspiring Astrophysicist. I spend most of my time thinking about stars and developing techniques to measure how their interiors boil like a pot of water. When my head isn’t in the stars, you can usually find me watching the latest horror or superhero films, playing video games, or chilling with my demonic cat–Cookie (see the fluffy terror below).
Like many people of Hispanic-descent, I grew up in a gigantic family, with six siblings, 15 aunts and uncles, and hundreds of first, second, and third cousins. A large percentage of our family reunites every two years in a big, multiple day event of family fun with Puerto Rican cuisine, music/dance, and competitions. My family is the biggest source of support and love in my life. The picture below is one of our reunions.
I also have a brief, semi-retired career as a competitive video game player for Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter. I was lucky enough to have the chance to travel to Las Vegas to participate in the tournament known as “EVO”!
I look forward to meeting and getting to know all of you throughout the program, and helping you reach your goals for the summer!
