Welcome to Andrea’s blog post! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

July 3rd was all about SSP being tourists at the heart of the nation. The day was filled with memorials, a quite special looking white house, and museums. I found profound messages, both literally and figuratively, embedded throughout the day.

The literal messages I saw sprinkled throughout the Museum of Natural History.  At every corner, there was something about biology, life, or learning.

Pretty self-explanatory.

Museum microbes!!! Dr. Mano also gave a nice talk through all of the different plant exhibits at the museum. Taiz FTW!

The old hotels outside of the White House.

All in all, we hit many of the national tourist destinations in Washington D.C. Although we didn’t see Joe Biden (the current president of the USA), we did get to see each other, have fun, and visit tons of new places. We also got non-dining hall food today (Qdoba burritoes, cookies, and chips) much to the delight of everyone. While I don’t have pictures of the food, it’s sufficient to know that it was much better than the normal lunch! It was some nice variety in our diet.

This is a concise summary of what we did. All in all, it was an amazing day at SSP and was definitely part of program highlights. Thank you for reading <3
