Today was the final day to finish our posters. A culmination of 5 and a half weeks of grueling work. We got through chemostat failures, tedious bioinformatics, sleep deprivation, lab group disputes, and tough problem sets. My own lab group, which usually functions well, was driven to the edge of insanity as we stayed up working.
Taking a power nap.
The last few days were definitely rough. We struggled to get words on a page. Everything felt like word vomit and we knew our drafts would get ripped apart. A lot of the time we felt like we didn’t know what we were doing.
Lab groups work in the computer lab close to midnight.
SSP was an experience. I feel proud getting through it with all the wonderful people here. I’ve realized more about myself in this short time than any time before.
It will leave a long lasting impression on me that will carry through the rest of my life. I’m now more motivated than ever before. Looking back on all the trouble we went through, I can say it was worth it.

As we approach the end of the program, we’re thrilled to go back home, but those feelings are mixed with sadness in all of us. In a few days, we’ll be leaving behind all the incredible people we met as we head back into our normal lives. It’ll be weird when I wake up and realize that I’m no longer at Eigenmann Hall.
Through all the hard work, there were plenty of fun moments. Here are some of my favorite memories and photos:
Ian and I
Singing the National anthem on the 4th of July
Trinity and I at the park
Josh making ramen for boys night
Ian and I fighting over a seat
Roma at the art show
Thank you everyone for making this an incredible experience for me!
